Seeking Industry Input in 2022 Outlook Study

The Auto Care Association released an industry-wide study to hear from businesses about their business outlook as the auto care industry heads into 2022. This study will provide valuable insights for a year-end wrap-up analysis of the association’s aftermarket industry data gathered throughout 2021 as well as provide insights heading into 2022 for a clearer snapshot of the state of the industry to its members.


The deadline to submit responses is Dec. 8, 2021.

Auto Care Association and AASA release new joint reports providing forecasts and analysis of new technologies impacting the automotive aftermarket industry.

By 2045, 79% of all new vehicle sales are expected to be BEVs or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and are projected to account for 36% of vehicles in operation (VIO). This newly-released report provides the latest data, trends and analysis on how these developments are expected to impact the automotive aftermarket; the data and projections in this report can be applied to all companies across the supply chain to inform long-term strategy and identify future growth opportunities.

The 30-page 2021 Joint Electrification Forecast report includes a complete projection of the growth of new EV sales and vehicles in operation (VIO) through the year 2045 under three scenarios: base, low and high EV adoption; projections on total battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) model count by vehicle class, showing how the popular SUV style is driving EV design as vehicle manufacturers provide more options; how EVs affect the growth of aftermarket parts sales through the year 2045; and more.

The COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on retail shopping in 2020 resulted in a rapid shift to e-commerce adoption in the auto care industry, with e-commerce sales of aftermarket parts and accessories (excluding marketplaces) projected to increase by 11.7% to more than $18 billion in 2021. E-commerce adoption in the automotive aftermarket has grown from 6.5% in 2018 to 12.1% in 2021, representing nearly a 100% increase.
